These tricky little creatures are a lot of fun to watch, one day I was sitting at the table looking at a lovely paw paw on my tree, the last one I might add, when I looked again a few minutes later it was gone.
I had seen a monkey checking it out earlier and decided I better get it because it was almost ripe but before I got it he did.
The green monkeys found in Barbados originally came from Senegal and the Gambia in West Africa approximately 350 years ago.
Although there is a bounty on them it doesn't seem the population has decreased very much over the last thirty years.
Green monkeys are mainly located in the secluded and woody parishes of St Joseph, St John, St Andrew and St Thomas, but from my experience there are still many in the parish of St. Peter.
It is not uncommon to see them going across the road to steal fruit from my neighbors fruit trees or sitting under the large dunks tree eating, "monkey apples".
Another good way to see the Barbados green monkey is to visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve which is home to many of these primates
